NTT DOCOMO Ventures Invests in GOOPASS, Inc., Provider of “GOOPASS,” a Subscription-based Service for Experiences and Goods

NTT DOCOMO Ventures, Inc. (Head Office: Minato-ku, Tokyo; President and CEO: Yuko Sasahara; hereinafter, “NDV”) is pleased to announce that, through a fund that it manages, it has invested in GOOPASS, Inc. (Head Office: Shibuya-ku, Tokyo; CEO: Isao Takasaka), provider of “GOOPASS,” a subscription-based service for experiences and goods.

In recent years, the expansion of sharing economy and the diversification of related products have led to a gradual shift in consumer behavior from owning (buying) to using (sharing). Going forward, the continuous decline in real wages associated with recent sharp rises in prices as well as the growing interest in sustainability are expected to further accelerate this trend.

GOOPASS, operated by GOOPASS, Inc., is a subscription-based service that focuses on use and experiences, rather than on physical goods. For example, in addition to providing cameras, aerial drones, laptops for editing, and other photography-related equipment, the company offers a total photography experience, such as camping and workcations, to enjoy photography even more. In doing so, it aims to realize a world in which everyone can easily enjoy leisure time, even amidst soaring prices.

GOOPASS, Inc. works with leasing companies to create a unique model in which customers can freely choose and change equipment within a price plan based on the equipment’s grade, unlike the conventional model in which customers rent specific pieces of equipment.
