Invested in Riskified Ltd.

NTT DOCOMO Ventures, Inc. (headquartered in Minato-ku, Tokyo, Japan; President & CEO: Minoru Etoh) announced today its investment, through the investment fund it operates, in Riskified Ltd. (headquartered in Tel Aviv, Israel; CEO: Eido Gal), which is a start- up company in Israel and guarantees charge back risks of credit card payment.

1.Overview of the investment

NTT DOCOMO Ventures, Inc., through the investment fund it operates, has decided to invest in Riskified Ltd., a start-up company in Israel, by joining the funding round for Riskified. This is the first venture investment in Israel for NTT DOCOMO Ventures, Inc.

2.Background

Riskified Ltd. analyzes unauthorized use of credit cards for online payment and guarantees transaction when authorized use of credit cards is found in those transactions. If the guaranteed transaction is found fraud, it provides charge back guarantee services to pay the full amount of damage.

While the amount of damage is increasing mostly in the U.S. and Europe caused by unauthorized use of credit cards for online payment, Riskified uses its fraud analysis technology based on its unique purchasing behavior analysis and machine learning etc. carrying out more highly accurate credit management. For e-commerce operators, it not only avoids risks of loss of sales caused by unauthorized use of credit cards but also increases sales opportunities and provides efficient and reliable business management. Currently it provides services mostly to e-commerce operators in the U.S. and Europe, and the guaranteed amount of transaction per year is expected to be US$3 billion, estimating its year-over-year growth at 400%.

Riskified’s business growth shows the need of charge back guarantee against e-commerce operators. Since business chances of charge back guarantee are expected to increase in accordance with a further growth of e-commerce market and increase in the amount of damage caused by unauthorized use of credit cards due to increase in e-commerce market, NTT DOCOMO Ventures, Inc. decided to invest in Rsikifield.
