NTT DOCOMO Ventures Invests in now.gg, Inc., which Provides Next-gen Mobile Cloud Game Streaming Platform

NTT DOCOMO Ventures, Inc. (headquartered in Minato-ku, Tokyo, Japan; President and CEO Yuko Sasahara; hereinafter “NDV”), has invested, through its fund, in now.gg, Inc. (headquartered in California, the United States; CEO Rosen Sharma; hereinafter “now.gg”), which provides a mobile cloud game streaming platform.

These days there is an increasing number of game app users who in-game talk to each other in real time as mobile games are popularized. However, there are many things to do before playing a game on their smartphones such as downloading and buying an app, which annoys people wishing to easily play mobile games.

now.gg is a U.S. startup which makes mobile game apps available in cloud environments, and provides a mobile cloud game streaming platform which enables the user to play a game on their browser. With now.gg’s platform, the user can immediately play a game on their browser without downloading an app. Also, recommended games can be shared through URL, so the user can easily play with other users using SharePlay. Such a comfortable mobile game environment as allows users to easily access a mobile game promotes in-game user-to-user communication.

On top of that, “nowCloudOS” newly developed by now.gg streams apps for Android created by game developers to the browser of a terminal device such as a smartphone, PC, and Chromebook using now.gg’s own cloud rendering technologies, which enables now.gg to offer a comfortable game environment to the user segment they haven’t been able to reach before. now.gg’s mobile cloud game streaming platform released in some areas from July 2021 onwards has already had as many as 42 million users (as of February 2023).

The NTT DOCOMO Group (hereinafter “DOCOMO”) provides the multi-device metaverse service that enables the user to easily enjoy a wide range of digital content on their browser from 2022 onwards. now.gg’s cloud rendering technologies and the new user experience that the company strives to realize are highly compatible with the initiative for a better communication that DOCOMO aims to achieve. For these reasons, NDV has decided to invest in now.gg expecting to have a collaborative relationship with them for years to come.
Through this investment, NDV will agilely explore the possibility of launching joint projects between now.gg and DOCOMO, and will advance its effort to create new value.
