Invested in Universal Robot Co, Ltd.

NTT DOCOMO Ventures, Inc. (Minato-ku Tokyo, President & CEO: Kazuhiro Yoshizawa) today announced its investment in Universal Robot Co, Ltd. (Chuo-ku Tokyo, Representative Director: Eizaburo Iwata), provider of palm vein authentication for mobile devices.

1.Overview of the investment

Through the investment fund operated by the company, NTT DOCOMO Ventures acquired shares of Universal Robot issued through third party allocation.

2.Background

The palm vein authentication system developed by Universal Robot enables palm vein authentication by using just the camera on a smartphone or tablet, eliminating the need of a dedicated infrared device for vein detection. This technology is mainly used for enhanced security in tablets and smartphones for business use. NTT DoCoMo Ventures has made this investment decision looking forward to this technology expanding both in domestic and global markets, as well as to the further growth in the business of Universal Robot.
