NTT DOCOMO Ventures Invests in Mapped, Inc., Provider of Data AI Platform for Smart Buildings

NTT DOCOMO Ventures, Inc. (Headquarters: Minato-ku, Tokyo; President and CEO: Jun Yasumoto; hereafter “NDV”) has invested in Mapped, Inc. (Headquarters: Los Angeles, California, USA; CEO: Shaun Cooley; hereafter “Mapped”) through its managed fund. Mapped develops and provides a pioneering data AI platform for smart buildings.

Currently, automation systems, equipment, and IoT sensors are being widely used in many buildings for purposes such as improving work efficiency, reducing energy consumption, and analyzing people flow. It is estimated that over 3,000 IoT devices are installed in the average U.S. office building. ※1 However, the varying standards and custom implementations across these devices have become a barrier to effective data utilization for business transformation and powering next generation of AI applications.

Mapped has developed a data AI platform for commercial buildings that enables centralized management of data from building automation systems and IoT devices. Mapped platform supports the standards of over 100 IoT device types, allowing for streamlined data acquisition and utilization. The platform has already been adopted by major corporations worldwide, facilitating the creation of smart buildings that improve building operations and management efficiency through data-driven insights.

The NTT Group is advancing efforts to analyze and visualize data related to buildings and regions, delivering diverse value to building operators and people working within these spaces. Through this investment, we will deepen collaboration with Mapped. and pursue initiatives to create new value in the smart building sector.
