NTT DOCOMO Ventures, Inc. (headquartered in Minato-ku, Tokyo, Japan; President & CEO, Toshiki Nakayama), through the fund it operates, invested in Medley, Inc. (headquartered in Minato-ku, Tokyo, Japan; Co-CEO, Goichiro Toyoda; Founder / CEO, Kohei Takiguchi; hereinafter referred to as “Medley”), which develops various services such as the recruitment website “Job Medley” for the medical and nursing care industry, the online disease encyclopedia “MEDLEY,” the online medical examination app “CLINICS,” and the word-of-mouth website on nursing homes “Kaigo No Honne.”
1. Overview of the investment
NTT DOCOMO Ventures, Inc., through the investment fund it operates, acquired the stocks of Medley through third-party allocation.
2. Background
Due to changes in the future population movement, medical and nursing care expenses are expected to increase. Due to its continuous growth, the medical field has many issues to address. In order to improve such a situation, Medley actively tries to resolve these various issues such as chronic staff shortages in the medical and nursing care industries and incorrect information provided on the internet. Furthermore, mitigated interpretation on telemedicine was clarified by an administrative ruling in August 2015, and Medley has started to provide platform services for hospitals and clinics to enable telemedicine as a result of the urban telemedicine market. This will lead to an improvement for the users in continued treatment and a reduction in waiting times to see a doctor, and these markets are expected to expand widely.
Medley aims to realize “convincing medical care” for patients, their families and medical staff by providing simple medical information and new medical experiences. The services that are sensitive to people’s feelings provided by NTT DOCOMO, INC. such as the “Maternal & Child Health Handbook App” and “Medicine Notebook Link®” are strongly aligned with Medley’s values and we expect this to contribute to the creation of new values in the future medical field.
