Invested in SuRaLa Net Co., Ltd.

NTT DOCOMO Ventures, Inc. (headquartered in Minato-ku, Tokyo, Japan; President & CEO: Minoru Etoh) today announced its investment, through the investment fund it operates, in SuRaLa Net Co., Ltd. (headquartered in Chiyoda-ku, Tokyo, Japan; CEO: Takahiko Yunokawa, hereinafter referred to as “SuRaLa Net”) that offers education services based on a cloud learning system and consulting services on the operation of the above system.

1.Overview of the investment

NTT DOCOMO Ventures, through the investment fund it operates, acquired shares of SuRaLa Net through third-party allocation and transfer from existing shareholders.

2.Background

SuRaLa Net develops and provides SuRaLa, a cloud learning system that has been introduced into schools and juku (tutoring schools) nationwide. This is a next-generation education system that has features not found in conventional e-learning materials such as: 1. Small-step-by-step easy-to-understand interactive lessons; 2. Drills with adjustable difficulty levels and capability to diagnose weak points; and 3. Attentive follow-up by active juku teachers. SuRaLa Net plans to expand its business by entering into channels other than the current private schools and juku, with a view to operating overseas. The above efforts by SuRaLa Net have a high affinity for those of NTT Group companies including NTT DOCOMO in the areas of education and learning, which is expected to contribute to these areas.
